The popularity of Do Dham Yatra tour
The popularity of Do Dham Yatra tour is almost the same as Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand. It is believed by the Hindu monks since ancient times that the entire universe was made by Hindu god. The number of Hindu gods is almost 33 crore. Male gods are called Devas, and female gods are called devis. Each and every god has their different and special powers and looks. Many of them are a mixture of humans and animals. Many of them are plants. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are the main gods, and Parvati, Laxmi, and Kali are the main goddess of Hindus. Pilgrimage is one of the common ways to worship.
People from one end to another end of a country use to go overcoming the limitations on the way like high cliffs, muddy trails, uneven roads, etc. to worship their favorite gods and to remove sins.
In India there are many pilgrim locations are located. Among them, the Do-Dham and Chardham Yatra are the most popular. In India temples of Hindu gods are situated here and there. Four holy sites Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram are called Chardham together. Vishnu is worshipped in Badrinath. Jagannath is worshipped in Puri, Lord Krishna, a form of Vishnu is worshipped in Dwarka, and in Rameshwaram Shiva is worshipped. Among these four holy lands, Badrinath is the most popular, and Badrinath and Kedarnath together are called do-Dham.
Kedarnath is another name for Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the Kedarnath temple. Kedarnath is located in the Garhwal region of the Himalayan range in Uttarakhand and was built more than 1000 years ago. The temple is open for normal people in the months from April to November due to extreme weather conditions. There is no direct road connected to the temple. People have to walk 22 kilometers through uneven, sacred paths.
According to some Hindu myths, it is heard Pandavas made this temple to worship lord Shiva after the Kurukshetra war to beg forgiveness. And it is also heard that where the temple is built, Lord Shiva released the holy water from his matted hair. And that is the river Ganga. This belief attracts thousands of Hindu pilgrims every year.
Vishnudeb is worshipped in the Badrinath temple. The temple is located in a town, named Badrinath, in Uttarakhand, along the bank of the Alakananda River. The temple Badrinath is also open for pilgrims from April to November. Having 1060000 visits, Badrinath holds the most visited Pilgrimage location. Though there is no history of this temple, the mythological story says that Vishnudeb once sat here to meditate unknowing of the cold weather. And later his peer saved him in form of an Indian date tree (Badri tree). Being pleased, Vishnudeb named the place ‘Badrika Ashram’. Maybe that’s why the name of the location is Badrinath.
In addition to these reasons, devotees also think the harder they go to visit god, the more virtue they will gain. That is why, being an uneven and remote area, Do-Dham is the most popular pilgrimage to devotees.
